String Bikini

One of the most classic styles that never go out of fashion is the string bikini.  Consisting of four pieces of fabric held and linked together by thin straps or strings, it provides minimal coverage in an undeniably asset-flaunting fashion.  These swimsuits conceal the body’s most sensitive parts while effectively flaunting the body’s beauty.  Its four pieces of fabric appropriately held together by thin straps serve to cover the chest and the buttocks area.  Because of its eye-catching design, it remains to be a popular choice among young women and beach-goers.

A little history

After the reconsideration of the public ban on nudity in the 1960s, men and women began to look for the best compromise.  Upon the introduction of the string style swimwear in the 1970s, there was a sudden upsurge of consumers patronizing this product.  Its fast growth in popularity drags on to this day, and it certainly seems that that this bikini could never lose its market.

Imported from Rio de Janeiro’s Brazilian beaches, it was first introduced to the United States in 1974.  Upon its first introduction to the United States market, this particular swimwear, also sometimes known as the Tanga, had an astonishing sales records.  A Madison Avenue boutique managed to sell out all of its 160 stocks in just two days, while Bloomsdale in Manhattan also sold all of its 150 bathing suits in this design in just two weeks.  Even after that, the design continued to sell at a faster rate.  It became especially popular among American women, especially to those in their 20s.

Is it the right one for you?

Despite its tremendous popularity, not all body types favor this beachwear style.  Though some women consider it as the most flattering two-piece ensemble there is, it only works best with certain body sizes, shapes, and types.  This style works best on women with small busts.  This is because the traditional triangular shape of this swimwear adds curve and shape to breasts that do not really need huge fabric or bra support.  Also, there are bikini tops that now have built-in underwires that work in the same way as push up bras, thereby, enhancing the bust size and form.  This type of swimsuit also works best on women with slender bodies.  You’d better be careful in choosing the size because the thin strings and straps can cut into the skin if they are too tight.
